EA, often shown as EA 227, is the most common Worcester Bosch code in Coventry. On most current models it means the boiler tried to light, the flame sensor saw nothing, and it locked out to stay safe. The cause is usually outside the boiler first - no gas getting to it - and inside it second: an ignition electrode, a sensor or a gas valve. Check your manual, as meanings can shift between models.
What's involved

Worcester Bosch EA Fault Code in Coventry, done properly

Is gas reaching the house?

Try the hob or gas fire. If nothing lights anywhere, the problem is the supply, not the boiler. On a prepayment meter, check it has credit - an empty meter produces exactly this code.

Frozen condensate pipe

In a cold snap, the white plastic pipe running outside can freeze and block the boiler. Warm (not boiling) water poured along it often clears it; then reset once.

One reset, not five

Press reset once. If EA returns straight away, leave it off - repeated attempts on a boiler that cannot light do it no good.

What the engineer checks

Gas pressure at the valve, the ignition electrode and its lead, the flame sensor, and the flue. Usually a part-level repair rather than a new boiler.

Good to know

Worcester Bosch EA Fault Code — your questions

Is EA dangerous?

No - the boiler has shut itself down because it could not confirm a flame. Smell gas? Leave the house, do not use switches, and call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999. A fault code is never a gas leak, but a smell always is.

It only happens on cold mornings. Why?

That points at the condensate pipe freezing. Lagging or re-routing the outside run usually stops it for good.

How do I know the engineer is qualified?

Ask to see the Gas Safe ID card and check the back - it lists what that person is signed off to work on. Anyone genuine expects to be asked.
